My wife convinced me to write this section. She claims its impossible to tell what is a good gadget for a guy. For this reason we have put down some basic rules for those girls, women, ladies looking to buy a gadget for their man.
- Just because one looks at gadgets, doesn't mean you one wants to own them. Just like girls like to try on loads of clothes, they don't all fit, the same applies to gadgets. Conclusion, just becaused your man looked at a gadget doesn't mean he wants to own it.
- If you have a gadget in mind and you think it would look "sweet, cute, nice" on/with/... him then don't buy it. Gadgets are not meant to be any of those. Gadgets can be any of the following: practical, cool, the source of colleagues envy, time killer, complicated, dangerous, a bit silly... but definitely not cute or sweet.
- A gadget that looks like another gadget is not the same thing. If you are about to buy a gadget you think he is would like, please make sure its the right brand and the right model.
- Do not buy it from a shop you have never heard of before. Even experts get fooled into buying fake immitations. In our links section, we have put a list together of some reputable gadget shops.
- Unfortunately, it is true, that most gadgets are expensive. There are however some cheap options too: compasses, pens, lighters...
Hopefully the above makes things easier for you. Now given the very wide definition of the term of gadget, we thought it would be useful to list how to find out what is your man's desired gadget and best gift idea.
- Unfortunately you will have to listen your man's conversations with other male colleagues or friends. If a particular items is mentioned or discussed more than once, than its a good indicator.
- Accessories to existing gadgets or equipment is always appreciated, e.g. waterproof case for new camera, an external flash for the new camera.
- Torch with a bit extra. I think that is probably the safest gadget one can get. As long as there is something special about it, it will do, e.g. waterproof, extra powerful, solar powered, rechargeable, shockproof etc.
- Test your idea of a gadget by "stumbling" upon it on ebay. "Why would anyone want to buy this?" Just make sure you have an excuse for why you ended up there in the first place.
- Ask his best friend for ideas.
- Gadgets usually fall into out of these categories: A) Electronics B) Outdoor C) House. Anything outside of these is a pretty tricky.
